Dr, Mumbengegwi’s Herald spin backfires as internet readers skin him alive

Minister Mumbengegwi

Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi’s attempt to twist the outcome of the SADC deliberations in Sandtown South Africa on 12 June 2011 has infuriated readers of the State controlled Herald and the Zanu PF compromised publication has amazingly gladly published the reader’s negative comments unedited other than in respect of obvious vulgarities in the comments. The uncomplimentary readers’ comments are blunt and damaging not just to Dr Mumbengegwi’s integrity but to Zanu PF as a party.

The hitherto highly regarded Minister has been left in the sun to dry after he disingenuously invited the Herald to press conference after a briefing he had at his Munhumutapa offices with foreign diplomats from Non Aligned Movement member-states, Sadc, Russia and China on the outcome of the Sadc summit wherein he cautioned the diplomats to guard against being misled as to the outcome of the SADC deliberations and in particular the endorsement or otherwise of the Livingstone Troika summit resolutions.

Towing the Zanu PF line that the Livingstone Troika resolutions were set aside by virtue of the fact that the communiqué of the SADC Heads of State meeting only noted rather than endorsed them did not endear Dr Mumbengegwi to the online readers of the Herald who used pseudo names to trash the Minister’s lies and disingenuous propaganda.

Dr Mumbengegwi must have underestimated the depth and width of the factionalism in Zanu PF  and has been left seriously exposed given that he has been touted as a potential Mugabe successor should he outlive the octogenarian Zanu PF leader.

The comments are reproduced here as they appear in the online Herald article, Thursday, 16 June 2011 02:00,  titled “Don't be misled on the Livingstone Troika outcome – Govt” and are a must read for all who care about Zimbabwe.

Chikobo - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 12:31 AM Restore the rule of law and sanctions will be removed. Instead of wasting time going to these capitals to speak with people who will not listen to you, sought out things in Zimbabwe and allow peace and the rule of law to prevail. we can only develop when we are at peace with ourselves. This argument about noted and endorsed is just the mundane foolish talk we have become accustomed to from all you politicians. taneta nazvo izvo zvepropaganda dzenyu idzi

Well come to the rough salty waters of international politics because once you try to wash your bold head in there, then you get dehydrated first time.

TV - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 12:55 AM Did you hear that Mr Mumbengegwi. Never try and wash your bald head in the salty rough waters of international politics because you get dehydrated one time.

Wafaz - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 02:03 AM It is not very important what transpired there in SA.What we need as Zimbabweans is to be proud of ourselves and just respect peoples rights. It does not need an outsider to tell us that.Lets go ahead and cultivate a culture of tolerance with that Zimbabwe will be a better place. Are we saying when the GPA ends life in Zimbabwe stops.Whatever was noted endorsed or whatever does not matter implementation, is what is what is important..............

Solo - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 03:12 AM Minister Mumbengegwi's remarks put to rest confusion that was being created>>>> Is that so or its actualy causing mor confusion.

cde mabhunu - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 04:37 AM With all due respect to Dr Mumbengegwi we read the document and interpreted it in our way. The majority of people noted that to say the livingstone summit was rejected is to blatantly lie. Say whatever you want Zimbabweans know the real truth. You should be assuring the diplomats that your gvt will abide by the recommendations. Leave that to Proffessor, cde charamba, dr mahoso, Dr Chivaura, the list is endless. Oh i forgot Cde Cesar Zvayi

cde mabhunu - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 04:46 AM To my honourable minister i say there is a difference between agreeing to issues and the actual implementation. What happened to issue of provincial governors for a start? I could go on. Let me rest my case. Herald appraise Cde Charamba of the comments made in this so that they can take readers seriously. That wil loose my revolutionary party some support.

Mabharanzi - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 05:05 AM The core issue is to resolve all matters once and for all. This governemnt is playing games with us.Instead of working for the people this government is concerned about little things as the wording to document that dont change people lives.Nonsense !!

YIMINA LO - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 05:06 AM Yes it was noted and not endorsed, I think the point has been made Minister...abalamehlo lendlebe bayabona baphinde bazwe...let us see how events will unfold henceforth.

murambatsvina - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 05:27 AM Why is Zpf worried and jittery about the Sandton conference? Is there something to hide?

Hezvo - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 06:36 AM Musafururwa - Hurumende inotaurira vamiriri vedzimwe nyika. This would be the headline in Kwayedza

Goritoto - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 07:41 AM A drowning man will catch at a straw zvokwadi. Still Mumbengwegwi is trying to tell us that what the Herald eventually reported yesterday is not the truth. I challenge Mumbengegwi to come out in the open and say that the Livingstone Troika resolutions were thrown out and the one smuggled by RG to Namibia was adopted. He can ****** all he wants but he should also note that the Herald and ZBC/ ZBC TV are not the only sources of news in the world available to those who seek balanced information. There are stations like SABC 1,2 &3 as well as E TV, Al Jazeera, CNN, BTV,etc who also captured the news and people know what was arrived at at Sandton. And Mumbengegwi now knows that the die is cast. ZANU PF has all along behaved like a spoiled child pasina anovadzora, but now it is clear that the chickens have come home to roost. Ko kamuchinda kanonzi Jonathan Moyo nedhara rinonzi Tafataona and that ******* intellectual Vimbai Gukwe Chivaura vakanyararireiko? Ndivo vanotizve Smith akabviswa ne ZANU PF and yet for all we know Muzorewa akanga atovhoterwa nevanhu and became PM before tazovhoterawo ZANU PF in 1980. No amout of lies will change the trugh, even Goebels knew that although he was a prominent Minister of Propaganda.

Tsikamutanda - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 08:19 AM Thanks for the clarification honourable Minster. It means therefore Sanctions were not endorsed because it was 'Noted'. Let's hope you guys are not shooting yourself on the foot. The report is full of 'Noted" including the conflict in the other country near Moza, doesnt it mean it was 'rejected'.
Is noted and rejected same ? Continue fooling yourself ! :)

Kushatah - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 09:04 AM Ohh,i thought the Monday Herald reported that the Livingstone Troika report was rejected, thrown out the window. What is the true position Mr Minister? Inga musangano waparara. My own position is that it was firstly noted and then endorsed by isu ma Zimbo.Zve ma semantics izvi ndezvenyu mareporters.

helele - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 09:48 AM noted - worthy of attention. and does that mean rejected.. Who is misleading who.. Food for thought!!!

5boy - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 09:49 AM Hahahaha, kikikiki, kakakakakka. Lies

chabvongodza - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 09:50 AM Why lie,e.g the appointment of governors was never done, having a non-partisan police and army etc,so many issues still need to be implemented.

tototo - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:12 AM From the communique on 9 it says

9. Summit also noted that the Gaborone meeting was attended by eleven (11) political stakeholders from Madagascar, namely: AREMA; ESCOPOL; Les Autres Sensibilités; HPM; MDM; Mouvance Ratsiraka; Mouvance Ravalomanana; Mouvance Zafy; TGV; UAMAD/MONIMA and UDR-C.

Which implies the summit rejected that the Gaborone meeting ....

The truth will set you free

stupid - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:13 AM This is stupid journalism. This guy thinks Mumbengegwi's addres has 'put to rest' the confusion. Who told you he is the final authority in this matter. No amount of lying will stop people seing the fact that zpf was left with an egg in the face. Maruza vadzvanyiriri. How can you say it was rejected when the recommendations in the Livingstone communique have been given a thumps up for implementation. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSERS!!!!!!

musoro wegomo - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:32 AM Minister Zimbabweans are the most literate people in Africa they can read for themselves and understand what the Communique is saying.

It is not a Biblical parable that needs intepretation.

Therefore you cannot put to rest any speculation as there are no any speculations about Sandton.

The writings are on the WALLS

Mandla Nkomo - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:04 AM Shame on you Zanu PF! You have taken all the 14million Zimbabweans for a ride for too long... One day you will work up to pay for your sins of oppressing the masses for your own individual gains and protection.

Mthwakazi
SCRUPATA - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:06 AM The people who tried to mislead the country were Charamba and a reporter called Zvayi. The two tried to tell the world that 'Livingstone Troika' was noted therefore it means that it was rejected. Minister, people in zim can read and make sense out of what they read so why dont you reserve your interpretation to feed your chicken. You people in ZANU-PF are you paid just to anything chero zvakadhakwa here? You think you are attarcting support but you are disgusting.

zizi - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:10 AM yes taura zvako musoro

Mpangs - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:15 AM bhey lina dont make fools out of us mani kanti linjani lina bantu? At one point you say "major progress was made on implementing the GPA with the only sticking issue being the removal of the illegal sanctions", and then later on you say "The only outstanding issue is the writing of the new constitution, which is work in progress". What does your "only" mean kanti vele, i thought only means one thing and yet you have used the word more than once referring to two different things which is a clear indication there is much more that is yet to be done. The minister is soon going to be a minister of meanings i can see coz he is trying quite hard to clarify things by using very simple and clear words but giving them complicated meanings. English is hard minister but like Musoro Wegomo has said Zimbabweans are very literate and thus they find no need to decipher things that are as clear as this. In any case why the effort if there is nothing to it, why bother to clarify anything? In Shona they say and i quote "kuvundukha chathi khwatha", im sure thats what is being done here.

Mwana wevhu - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:37 AM Thanx Minister but no thanx. We can see that ZANU(PF) and its mouthpiece are trying to wriggle themselves out of this mess. We can all read for ourselves what the Communique said, and Ms Lindiwe Zulu actually went on to explain that the Livingstone document was adopted or/and endorsed.....very simple indeed.

MBERIKWAZVO - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:46 AM Madzibaba Mumbengegwi what happened is clear to everyone and anyone is free to think what they want. However to people outside ZANU-PF noted doesnt mean rejected as some of you tried to make people think. Among the things noted was the removal of sanctions, so what are you saying about that?
You can go ahead and tell your supporters whatever you want but I dont think that will change what happened nad what is going to happen. I am sorry to cause you a heart attack, but madzibaba your ship is sinking.

phillip - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 12:18 PM This should read - Don't be mislead by the Government'. The troika report stands and is accepted. You can't be journalists if you deny this. Herald LIES once more

psalm23 - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 12:24 PM "all we need is God's intervention"

musoro wegomo - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 12:55 PM Pity you zanu pf

ZVOGODII - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 01:06 PM What do you hope to achieve by perpetual lies? We saw the communique and read it for ourselves and we know who is lying..Vamwe vanhu zvichanetsa kuti vanangane nechokwadi..Speak little but the truth..

Don Murwisei - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 01:08 PM NONSENSICAL
The extraordinary summit was about Madagascar and Zimbabwe.SADC "NOTED" most of the items on Madagascar.Does that mean they were REJECTED too?

If that is the case then it means there was no endorsement of all the items on Madagascar.

mukanya - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 01:34 PM from today onwards the word "noted" now means "rejected". re-writting the dictionary......! and so the anti-sanctions campaign was "rejected" kikikiki!!!!!

Smith - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 01:53 PM Non Aligned Movement diplomats - What does that even mean ?????

Jonas - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 02:18 PM Zanu PF will never see the end coming. It's burying it's head in the sand. Shame on you all Zanu PF idiots, shame on you for using the old man Mugabe.

Confused.com - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 03:03 PM Thank you minister for the advice, at least we are safe because actually its a case of a government minister misleading like minds, so who cares!

Confused.com - Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 03:15 PM Telling lies is sometimes healthy, it gives you a false sense of security, hence it has therapeutic effects, however, the only problem comes in when you begin to believe your own lies - that becomes ganderously toxic. Saka anotofanira kungwarira ndimi minisita. Ko iwo mawords anoti noted naendorsed angada kutsanangururwa maZimba shuwa?
